Heal Your Soul

Heal Your Soul Girl

We all have an inner child. She lives within each and every one of us, sometimes feeling afraid, forgotten, and alone. As we learn to nurture and listen to her and give her a voice, we help heal our soul.

Hold her hand when she’s scared and assure her you’ll take care of her. She doesn’t have to worry. She doesn’t have to be in charge. You’re the adult and you’ll always protect her.

Tell her she’s pretty. Tell her she’s smart. Tell her she’s talented. Tell her she’s enough. Tell her she can achieve great things. Tell her she can do or be anything she wants. Tell her it’s OK to use her power and be a leader. Tell her you’ll never leave her. Tell her you love her.

With courage,

Jackie Barragan

Oh What A Week!

I just returned from the most amazing trip!! I spent a week in Scottsdale, AZ for the Traveling Art of Sisterhood retreat and it was phenomenal!!

From the time I began to experiment with art, I found it to be a means of healing for me. I enjoy making beautiful art and using my creativity, but more than that, to me, art is a form of therapy. It has brought me so much healing!

Last year, after I taught in the first Traveling Art of Sisterhood Retreat, I realized that though I thoroughly enjoy teaching art, my true calling is to facilitate healing through art.

So for my class this year, I chose to act as an Expressive Arts Facilitator, rather than an art instructor (just as I did last year too.)

My class was about healing our wounds from the past; about the importance of sharing our stories in an empowering way; and about finding the gifts our wounds left us.

I led the group through a guided mediation for relaxation and positive energy. We did some affirmations. We set intentions. We wrote about a wound we are ready to heal. And then students created art based on their wound.

There was music, tears, laughter, hugs, love, and support. There were stories shared and meaningful connections made. It was a very powerful experience for many, myself included.

For me, this retreat is so much bigger and deeper than art. It’s a celebration of friendship and connection with women!

I’m so grateful to Kara Bullock for inviting me back; grateful for the experience; and honored to be a part of the journey.

I’m especially grateful for the students who took part in my lesson and trusted me with their stories. Your story matters!!

I have tons of photos but just sharing some highlights. It was AMAZING!!!

Thoughts on The Art of Sisterhood Retreat aka PURE MAGIC WEEK

Magic happened in Atascadero, CA a couple of weeks ago. Seriously.

I spent six days at the Art of Sisterhood Retreat and it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced! That week with my art sisters far exceeded my expectations. It was so much more than art for me. It was about human connection, empathy, love, laughter, truth, and courage. It was about sharing our hearts and our art. It was healing and therapeutic. It was hilarious and fun. It was tearful and vulnerable. It was magic.

IMG951672_1511374505061The thought of teaching a lesson in person for the first time made my hands shake and my stomach turn. I gave myself huge anxiety just thinking about it. But then, when the day came (11/11 – an angel number and divine sign!), these 25 beautiful women trusted me and allowed me to be my authentic self in my perfectly imperfect way. They made me feel safe, without judgement. We cried; we laughed; we hugged; we shared; we connected; we “sister’d”.

During my lesson, we tapped into our inner child and then created meaningful, soulful art together. Everyone was so genuinely supportive of one another; loving and kind. It felt like I was witnessing magic unfold.23783614_10214769770867033_5124712153834875008_o_1511374505162

Thank you ladies for sharing your hearts and your art with me. I am eternally grateful for the privilege you bestowed upon me. The stories your shared and the heart and soul you poured into your art-making during my lesson will stay with me forever. It was an experience I will treasure always.

To my fellow instructors – Kara Bullock, Denise Braun, Deanna Wilson, Tiare Smith, Ivy Newport, Sara Burch, Lauren Rudolph, and Jennifer Bonneteau – thank you for embracing me with nothing but love and light the whole way through and for believing in me more than I believed in myself. You will never know how much you helped me heal and grow.

With Love and Courage,

Jackie
