You Matter

Regardless of your age, your race, your ethnicity, your religion or lack thereof, your political party, your gender, your sexuality, your immigration status, who you love, where you live, how much money you make…You Matter.

Remember that.

Create, Play, Imagine

I started this in February and felt stuck for a really long time. Mostly because I didn’t like her face and I detest working so small. Fine details are not my thing. In any case, I decided to call her done a few months ago. Here are my first mermaid and her little seal companion.

The reason I decided to create this piece is because I had had seals on my mind for a while (they kept appearing in meditation and during Reiki) and I kept feeling this nudge to paint one.

Let’s kick off December with a fun CHALLENGE!

Earlier this year I had to come up with a “Challenge” as part of my lesson for The Art of Sisterhood course. I chose to do a “Dollar Drop” as my challenge. For seven days, I left one of my art postcards in random places with one dollar bill attached.

The back of each card read: “You are so very loved. May you rise above life’s challenges and let your light shine! Wishing you an abundance of all the goodness in life.”

Tell Your Story (in an empowering way)

For most of my life, I felt that I had an important story to tell. I used to envision publishing a memoir and someday sitting across from Oprah, discussing my book. (Ok, I admit it… I still hold this vision.)

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers

I’ve been thinking a lot about hope. Hope is what helps us get through the most difficult times. We hold on to the hope that tomorrow will be better and brighter. Hope is what lifts us out of anguish and despair and makes us believe that things won’t always be this way. Hope gives us permission to dream. It allows us to live optimistically with the idea that anything is possible.

Funny story…as I was painting her, I thought “Hmm, she looks hopeful.” I wanted to include a message on the canvas about hope and birds or feathers to tie it all together. So I Google’d “Hope is like a feather” just to see if I could come up with something clever to write. Little did I know that there is a famous Emily Dickinson poem called “Hope Is TheĀ  Thing with Feathers”. Synchronicity at work!

May you always have hope.
